The Andy Smythe Band
Looking for an entertaining and unique act for your venue in the coming season …
The Andy Smythe Band is looking for venues and folk clubs to include in their ‘Nation of the Free’ tour during the winter months of 2009-10. ‘Nation of the Free’ is the band’s debut CD and features 14 original songs composed by prolific London-based singer/songwriter Andy Smythe. The CD looks at issues surrounding freedom in politics, history and love.
The band consists of :
Andy Smythe: vocals, stage piano, acoustic guitar
Barry Targett: violin, cello violin, dobro, guitars
Les Elvin: bass
The band has an eclectic palette drawing on influences from bluegrass, classical, jazz, folk and acoustic genres. Andy also has one of the most stunning and powerful voices that you’ll encounter on the folk circuit. He leads the band with considerable wit and charisma. Barry is an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist and Les literally can make the bass sing a melody line! The band’s dynamic performances have been drawing plaudits from across the acoustic/folk community:
‘Voice, fiddle, band, songs – a wonderful warm sound’ Mike Scott of The Waterboys
‘A voice as good as Roy Orbisons’ Folking.com
‘I really enjoyed your show at the Green note – a terrific, confident performance by you and the band’ Julian Lewry, Farncombe Music Club
Venues currently included in the tour include the National Theatre, The View Two Arts Centre (Liverpool), Tenterden Folk Festival, The Kontra Roots Club (Kettering), The Acoustic Kitchen (Kings Lynne) and Gary’s music club (Coolham, East Sussex).
The band is looking for dates to add to their tour between November and February. Tour dates will be advertised in a nationwide publicity campaign using the Maverick, Folk Roots and Rock n’ Reel publications and will be backed up with a radio promotion campaign.
